The Rice Purity Test, Explained
Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes when you take the Rice Purity Test? Here’s a complete breakdown of how the test works, how your score is calculated, and what your results actually mean.
The Basics
100 Questions, One Score
The Rice Purity Test consists of 100 yes-or-no questions about life experiences across five categories:
- Romance (20 questions) — Dating, relationships, and intimate experiences
- Social (20 questions) — Parties, friendships, and social adventures
- Academic (20 questions) — School, studying, and educational experiences
- Adventure (20 questions) — Travel, risk-taking, and spontaneous moments
- Digital Life (20 questions) — Online behavior, social media, and digital experiences
For each question, you simply answer:
That’s it. No trick questions, no hidden meanings.
How Your Score Is Calculated
The Formula
Your purity score is calculated using this simple formula:
Your Score = 100 – (Number of “Yes” Answers)
Examples:
Scenario 1: High Purity
You answer “Yes” to 15 questions
Your score: 100 – 15 = 85 (very pure)
Scenario 2: Average Purity
You answer “Yes” to 45 questions
Your score: 100 – 45 = 55 (average)
Scenario 3: Low Purity
You answer “Yes” to 82 questions
Your score: 100 – 82 = 18 (very experienced)
What Does the Number Mean?
- 100 = You’ve experienced none of the 100 things (extremely rare)
- 75-99 = High purity, limited life experiences
- 50-74 = Moderate purity, balanced experiences
- 25-49 = Lower purity, many experiences
- 0-24 = Very low purity, extensive experiences
- 0 = You’ve experienced all 100 things (extremely rare)
Remember: A higher score doesn’t mean “better” — it just means fewer experiences from the list. Every score is valid.

Category Breakdown
After completing the test, you’ll see a category-by-category breakdown showing your purity percentage in each area.
How Category Scores Work:
For each category:
- Count how many questions you answered “Yes” to
- Calculate: (Category Total – Yes Answers) / Category Total × 100
Example: Romance Category
- Total romance questions: 20
- You answered “Yes” to 8 questions
- Category score: (20 – 8) / 20 × 100 = 60% purity in romance
What This Tells You:
You might discover you’re:
- Highly pure academically (never cheated, always studied) but lower purity socially (lots of parties)
- Adventurous digitally (active online life) but conservative romantically (limited dating experience)
- Balanced across all categories (similar experiences in all areas)
This breakdown gives you a more nuanced view than just your overall score.

| Score Range | % of Users | Archetype Group |
|---|---|---|
| 90-100 | 8% | The Innocents & Guardians (rare) |
| 80-89 | 15% | The Diplomats & Scholars |

Global Average: 68
Most people score between 55-75, forming a bell curve around the average.
Frequently Misunderstood
“Does a higher score mean I’m a better person?”
No. The test measures life experiences, not character or morality. A 95 isn’t “better” than a 25 — just different life paths.
“Should I lie to get a higher score?”
Only if you want inaccurate results! The test is anonymous and for personal reflection. There’s no benefit to lying except deceiving yourself.
“Can I retake the test?”
Absolutely! Many people retake it months or years later to see how their score changes as they gain new experiences.
“Why doesn’t my score match my friend’s perception of me?”
People often don’t know everything about their friends’ lives. Also, the test covers specific experiences — you might have different experiences not on the list.
“Is this test scientifically accurate?”
No. It’s for entertainment and self-reflection, not a validated psychological assessment. Don’t use it to diagnose anything or make major life decisions.
